Learning Papiamento<\/h1>

The main reason to learn Papiamento<\/a> is\u00a0to make life easier on Curacao. By this we mean that speaking Papiamento is respectful to the people and you therefore often get things\u00a0done faster. For daily dealings, arranging bureaucratic matters and order you in Dutch and English fine feet.<\/p>

On holiday?<\/h2>

On holiday\u00a0it\u2019s fun to learn a few Papiamentu words and phrases to impress your familiy at home, but to get through your stay on the island, it is not necessary.<\/p>

We won\u2019t recommend not finish any\u00a0course and it\u2019s always good to expand your language skills!<\/p>

Internship?<\/h2>

Perhaps you\u2019ve decided to do an internship in Curacao\u00a0as the official language is Dutch, and this makes some things a biot easier.<\/p>

We recommend you to learn small courtesies like \u201cBon dia\u201d (Good day), to learn and to use \u201cBon siman\u201d (Have a fine week) and \u201cMasha danki\u201d (Thank you). It is a world of difference to the local population if you \u2013 as an intern \u2013 say \u201cBon tardi\u201d.<\/p>

Live and work?<\/h2>

Have you decided to emigrate to Curacao and take a job here? Then the decision to learn the local language is mostly about the type of job and your personal motivation how important it is to master the\u00a0local language.<\/p>

In businesses where you work with local people the one Papiamento sentence you speak could really mean the difference to\u00a0closing the contract or upcoming cooperation.<\/p>

However, do you work in tourism or hospitality? It is primarily important to speak English and preferably Spanish. Papiamento ensures that you can communicate with your local colleagues which\u00a0makes your work experience just a bit\u00a0more fun.<\/p>

Courses<\/h2>

In\u00a0the Netherlands and of course on Curacao multiple companies and people are able to teaach\u00a0you Papiamento. You can choose to follow a school course, be thaught at home or at\u00a0work, or join some facebook group to learn Papiamento.\u00a0Obviously it is also possible to just get out there and practice and learn on the street and gradually expand your vocabulary.<\/p>
